Title: VSCD Surgeons attend SOP – plate Conference
Date: 4/3/07

Detail: VSCD Doctors at Boston Conference

SOP experience April 3, 2007 – VSCD surgeons Dr. Kim R. Carlson and Dr. Gregory S. Marsolais attended a local conference hosted by the innovators of the String of Pearls (interlocking plate technology: SOP).  http://www.milldesign.co.uk/

Both Doctors Marsolais and Carlson are excited with this new and innovative fracture & trauma fixation technology and VSCD is pleased to offer an expertise with this new plating system for these challenging circumstances!

  • The SOP™ is a novel implant system which answers many of the shortcomings of conventional plates and consequently has a wide range of applications in orthopedic and spinal surgery.
  • It comprises a series of non-deformable apertures (pearls) connected by short internodes with a circular cross section; standard bone screws lock into the pearls.
  • The SOP™ can be bent in any plane or twisted along its axis.
  • The SOP™ is a locking system providing angular stable fixation of fragments regardless of bone quality.
  • The footprint of the SOP™ on the bone is extremely small when compared with conventional bone plates so the impairment of blood flow will be minimal.
  • The SOP™ system is designed for use in conventional and minimally invasive fracture surgery.
  • The locking system is more ‘surgeon friendly’ and ‘bone friendly’ than existing systems
